In a strict move to combat rising pollution levels, the Shahdara North Zone of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its crackdown on illegal industrial units. Over the past week, the corporation has sealed 16 jeans dyeing factories operating in violation of environmental norms.
Ongoing Action And Statistics
The drive against polluting units continues unabated.
Recent Action: On Saturday, MCD teams sealed two illegal factories in Karawal Nagar.
Monthly Toll: Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Mishra stated that a total of 37 polluting factories have been sealed in the zone within the last month.
Target Areas: The crackdown is focused on specific hotspots, including Sadatpur, Karawal Nagar, Jafrabad, Sonia Vihar, and Khajuri.
Zero-Tolerance Policy
The corporation’s aggressive approach has reportedly caused panic among owners of illegal factories, with many voluntarily shutting down their operations to avoid official action.
Official Directive: Deputy Commissioner Mishra emphasised that officials have been given a clear mandate: jeans dyeing factories are not to be allowed to operate under any circumstances.
Immediate Sealing: Instructions have been issued to immediately seal any unit against which a complaint is received or which is found operating illegally during inspections.
Public Appeal
The corporation reiterated its commitment to reducing pollution and ensuring a clean environment. MCD teams are currently conducting field visits across all areas to identify remaining violators.
Call to Action: The MCD has appealed to the general public to provide information regarding any illegal factories operating in their neighborhoods, assuring them that definite action will be taken upon receipt of such reports.
