Sharad Kumar Saraf, former Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIT Bombay, has defended Professor Suryanarayana Doolla regarding the suicide of an IIT Bombay student. Saraf said there was no evidence against Doolla and described him as an upright and decorated professor who had worked for student welfare.
Saraf also dismissed allegations of caste-based discrimination against the professor, saying he had never seen any such behavior during Doolla's career. Saraf's comments come as the case continues to draw scrutiny over the circumstances surrounding the student's death.

Sharad Kumar Saraf defends Professor Doolla:
Sharad Kumar Saraf, former Chairman of the IIT Bombay Board of Governors, stated that Professor Doolla is being treated unfairly, noting that there is no evidence against him. He described Doolla as one of the most honest professors he encountered during his tenure and mentioned that Doolla had received awards and recognition for his work. Saraf also highlighted Doolla's efforts for student welfare during his time as the Dean of Student Affairs at IIT Bombay.
Saraf Dismisses Allegations of Caste-Based Discrimination:
Saraf stated that he did not witness any instances of caste-based discrimination during Doolla's career. He claimed that there had been no discussion regarding caste in this matter before the student's death.
Saraf also said the student's parents raised the caste-discrimination allegation two days after his death. Saraf described the incident as unfortunate and reiterated that Doolla had worked for the welfare of students during his time at the institute.
