CUET PG Exam Application Fee: The Students' Federation of India has expressed its opposition to the National Testing Agency's (NTA) plan to raise fees for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) PG exams. Registration for CUET PG 2024 has begun, with tests planned from March 11 to March 28, 2024.

The CUET price increase, which ranges from Rs 200 to Rs 600 depending on the category, has created widespread dissatisfaction among students. Fees for general students have been reduced to Rs 1,200, Rs 1,000 for OBC and EWS students, Rs 900 for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and transgender students, and Rs 800 for PwD students.

In addition, the charge for additional exam papers has been raised from Rs 500 to Rs 600 for each paper.

The SFI, which represents student interests, has spoken out against the CUET PG fee increase, calling it a barrier to educational diversity and an unfair financial burden on students, particularly those from marginalized groups.

The BJP-led central government and its sponsored agency NTA, according to SFI, have completely failed to create CUET as an inclusive examination mechanism. This tuition hike is yet another example of callous disdain for students' concerns and a departure from the goal of ensuring equal access to higher education.

The SFI issued a press release which reads, “The justification given for the fee hike by the head of NTA, is a flimsy logic suited for profit-making corporations”.

“We demand that the NTA should immediately revoke the increased fee structure. We also appeal to students to raise their voice against such arbitrary decisions made which has become an economic burden for students,” the release further added.

SFI views the move to raise CUET PG fees as another step by the government toward the privatization of education. According to SFI, the cost of operations will not be borne by students.
