Telangana School Closed 2026: The Sankranthi holiday schedule for schools in Telangana may be altered, following a request from teacher unions to the state government. The request stems from concerns that students may not be able to return to classrooms immediately after the festival holidays.

What is the Current Telangana School Holiday Schedule?

According to the Telangana School Education Department's earlier announcement, schools were scheduled to have Sankranthi holidays from January 11th to January 15th. Since January 10th is the second Saturday of the month, students will also have a holiday on that day, effectively extending the break.

Additionally, the state government has officially declared January 15th as a public holiday for Sankranthi and January 16th as an optional holiday for Kanuma.

Why are teacher unions requesting a holiday extension?

As per the current holiday calendar, schools are expected to reopen immediately after the festival holidays. However, teacher unions argue that many families travel to their hometowns during Sankranthi and may not be ready to send their children back to school immediately after the festival.

Citing feedback from parents, the unions have urged the government to extend the holiday period by a few more days.

They have suggested that schools remain closed until January 18th and resume classes on January 19th to ensure a smooth transition after the festival break.
