The Indian adaptation of The Night Manager, featuring Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sobhita Dhulipala, has been nominated for Best Drama Series at the 2024 International Emmy Awards. It stands out as the sole Indian entry among the 14 categories announced by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Thursday in New York. On September 19, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominations for the 2024 International Emmy Awards.
The Disney+ Hotstar series earned a nomination for Best Drama Series in total 56 nominees, which were recognised across 14 categories, representing 21 countries. It will face competition from Les Gouttes de Dieu (France), The Newsreader - Season 2 (Australia), and Iosi, El Espia Arrepentido - Season 2 (Argentina) for the prestigious award.
Directed by Sandeep Modi and Priyanka Ghose, the series is adapted from John le Carré’s novel as well as the British show featuring Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, and Olivia Colman.
Anil Kapoor, who portrays the antagonist Shelly Rungta, expressed his 'ecstatic' reaction to the nomination. He said, "It’s just been brought to my attention that our Indian adaptation of The Night Manager has been nominated for an International Emmy. I remember when the offer came in, I was conflicted. It offered me the opportunity to play a character so complex, but also, on the other hand, the huge responsibility of trying to add newness and authenticity to a part that had been played so masterfully by Hugh Laurie."
He added, "This validation from the Emmys, in addition to the tremendous love that we have received from fans worldwide, is a worthy reminder that hard work always pays. I am ecstatic and hungrier than ever before for what’s to come."
