Anurag Basu recently got candid and talked about the nepo kids in Bollywood. The word ‘nepotism’ is not new to the filmy world, where every established celebrity aspires to provide a safe and resourceful environment for his or her children so that they can build their future with better opportunities. This term has been under the online radar of netizens for a long time. Some star kids are lucky to get the desired opportunities, fame and a successful career, whereas others struggle to achieve the same. The debate between nepo kids and the outsiders has always been a hot topic of discussion.

Director Anurag Basu recently shed light on this and mentioned his favourite nepo kids. In a recent interview with The Juggernaut, Anurag Basu mentioned that he likes Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Ayan Mukerji and Ananya Panday. The director also praised Ananya for showing growth and maturity over the years.

Anurag Basu mentioned, “I think she has figured it out. I think long back in an interview, Siddhant Chaturvedi had said, ‘our struggles end where yours begin,’ and she took it very personally. Something altered inside her because she changed after that. Something about her changed. After that, I saw her in CNTRL, Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, and Gehraiyaan. Something flipped inside her, and she found herself — or she is on the path to finding herself. But whatever it is, she is doing great stuff. She is taking risks, and she is quite mature. She experiments. She is not playing safe, unlike others.”

Discussing why some nepo kids fail, he further explained, “I think the problem, more than the kids, is that the parents are not letting the kids make their own choices. For the sake of safety, the parental instincts kick in — ‘I am going to protect my child and give them a successful career because I know better’. That’s where the problem lies.”

On the work front, Ananya Panday has recently wrapped her schedule for Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri starring her opposite Kartik Aaryan. Meanwhile, director Anurag Kashyap’s crime drama Nishaanchi is set to release on September 19, 2025.
