Farhana OTT Release Date: Actor Aishwarya Rajesh is steadily establishing her presence in the Tamil film industry with each new project. Her latest outing in the film Farhana has caught everyone's attention due to her remarkable performance. Despite the controversies surrounding its release on May 12, the movie has received rave reviews from both critics and audiences.
Following its successful theatrical run, the highly acclaimed film is now preparing to make its digital premiere. Farhana is set to release for streaming on SonyLIV starting from June 16, allowing audiences to enjoy it from the comfort of their homes.
In the movie, Aishwarya Rajesh takes on the challenging role of Farhana, a courageous Muslim woman from a traditional family. Despite facing staunch opposition from the men in her life, Farhana defies societal norms and secures a job with the aim of supporting her family financially.
Nevertheless, her life takes an unexpected turn when she realises that she is employed at a sex’ call centre. Despite the challenging situation, Farhana remains resolute and continues her job to provide for her family. The movie's trailer offers a glimpse of a captivating social thriller, featuring a remarkable performance, that tackles the prevalent bias and discrimination faced by women in society.
Farhana’s trailer looks like a sharp critique of patriarchal society. Prior to its release, the film encountered opposition from certain Muslim organisations who alleged that it depicted their community in a negative light. The controversy escalated to the extent that Aishwarya Rajesh had to be security protection from the Tamil Nadu police.
In a statement, the production company clarified that Farhana is not intended to target any particular religion or offend anyone's sentiments. Their objective is to produce quality films that do not go against religious beliefs or sentiments and do not promote any acts against humanity. The company expressed the hope that those raising controversies about the movie would understand this perspective.
"Farhana is not against any religion or sentiments. Our aim is only to provide good movies and never act against any religious sentiments, or beliefs. And we never allow or want any act against humanity in our stories. We think that our brothers and sisters who are creating controversies about our movie should understand this," the statement read.
Farhana has been written and helmed by Nelson Venkatesan. The movie also stars Selvaraghavan, Aishwarya Dutta, Jithan Ramesh and Anumol.
