Jailer 2 Update: The Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer, which was released in theatres in 2023, was well-received by movie buffs and became the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film featured special cameos by Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar. However, fans were disappointed by the absence of actor Nandamuri Balakrishna in any special role. Now, the latest reports bring relief to those fans, as Daaku Maharaj fame is expected to play a key role in the much-awaited sequel, Jailer 2.
Nandamuri Balakrishna is now officially a part of Jailer 2. He will be seen starring opposite Rajinikanth in action packed sequel. As per a source quoted by Hindustan Times claimed, "It is true that NBK has said yes to a powerful role in Jailer 2. He loved what Nelson pitched to him and looks forward to shooting for the film soon. He plays more of a guest role in the film than a cameo because he wanted something solid, and Nelson delivered. Fans are going to love it."
Back in 2023, Nelson addressed the disappoinment of fans during a chat with Cinema Vikatan. He revealed why Balakrishna was not there in the first part.
The director said, “Balakrishna sir was in my mind, but I could not design and fit his character into the script properly. That’s why I dropped it. I feel that in Jailer 2 if Balakrishna does the role I have in mind, it will be powerful. I will definitely approach him because I want him to play a deadly police officer."

About Jailer 2: The upcoming Tamil action comedy film written and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. Rajinikanth will reprise his role as Muthuvel Pandian in the sequel. The 2023 hit movie starred Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, and Yogi Babu in key roles. Mohanlal, who made a cameo as Mathew in Jailer, is also expected to be part of the sequel. In March this year, he hinted at his involvement. The movie is being produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures.
