Jana Nayagan Censor Row: KVN Productions' request for CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) approval regarding Jana Nayagan's postponement was denied by the Supreme Court on Thursday. Thalapathy Vijay's Tamil movie was postponed from its January 9 release date due to the makers' inability to get the censor certificate. In its ruling, the Supreme Court instructed the petitioner to return to the Madras High Court, stating that the arguments must be presented before the division bench of the High Court.

Jana Nayagan makers' request for censorship approval for Thalapathy Vijay's last film before he fully enters politics with his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, was rejected by the Supreme Court. In fact, their decision to petition was slammed by the Supreme Court. "Not inclined to hear plea," it said during the proceedings. Speaking on behalf of KVN Productions, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi informed the court that the producer had 'lost everything and has been ruined' as a result of the delay.

Jana Nayagan producers were questioned by the court about why they didn't give enough time to CBFC to submit a response. They responded by pleading with the court to order the Madras High Court to consider their appeal by January 20, citing the significant damages already suffered.

Jana Nayagan Makers vs CBFC

Jana Nayagan was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), and following suggested modifications, the Examining Committee first approved a U/A 16+ certificate in December 2025. However, a complaint claimed that several of the movie's sequences would offend religious sensitivities and unfavourably depict the military. A complaint about the most recent version of the movie was brought to the makers' attention only on January 5, 2026.

Jana Nayagan New Release Date?

Jana Nayagan is currently looking for a new release date. Industry tracker Sacnilk believes that January 26 is the next best date for Thalapathy Vijay's last film because there's still no clarification, and the case is pending before the Madras High Court.

But it will be a major setback for Sunny Deol's next war movie, Border 2. With Bobby Deol as the main villain in Jana Nayagan, there might be a box office clash between the Deol brothers.

In the meantime, the hearing, which will determine the fate of the Rs 500 crore movie, has now been rescheduled for January 20, 2026. Thalapathy Vijay's fans are uncertain about whether the politician will make one last big-screen appearance, despite it being hailed as his final movie.
