On Sunday, Prakash Raj took to his X (formerly Twitter) to share a collection of images featuring pork, beef, and fish dishes. The actor took an indirect jibe at the movie with the caption, “The real #KeralaStory is how pork, beef and fish coexist with vegetarian sadya and all of them live in harmony. Please relish #justasking happy Sunday everyone.”

Anurag Kashyap Slams The Kerala Story 2; Calls It 'Propaganda'

Meanwhile, Prakash Raj is not alone in his condemnation. Acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has been characteristically blunt in his assessment of the project. The Gangs Of Wasseypur maker shared, "The Kerala Story is a shit movie. It is bullshit propaganda. Total bullshit. Aisa kaun beef khilata hai? Aisa koi khichdi bhi nahi khilata hai. Bakwaas picture. It is called crap.”

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Issues Statement Against The Kerala Story 2

On the other hand, Kerala’s Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, recently issued a formal statement defending the state’s reputation as a bastion of secularism. The post read, “The reports regarding the release of a sequel to the hate-mongering film 'The Kerala Story' should be seen with utmost gravity. Having already seen through the communal agenda and blatant lies of the first part, Kerala will once again reject this attempt to demonise our secular fabric with contempt. It is shocking how fabricated narratives aimed at inciting communal discord receive a free pass, while critical expressions of art get gagged. We must stand united against these attempts to paint our land of harmony as a hub of terror. The truth shall always prevail.”

Kamakhya Narayan Singh Responds To The Kerala Story 2 Criticisms

In response to the mounting criticism, director Kamakhya Narayan Singh has stood firm. In a recent interview he stated, "It’s a fact-based film. There is this kind of thing happening all over the country, where love is used to trap girls, to change the demography of the country. It’s important that the country knows the facts about the situation in the country, how the girls are being trapped, and that is why we’ve made this film." He further added, "See, this is the truth. We can’t close our eyes and say there’s nothing happening in society. There are things happening in society, and we need to talk about it, we need to sensitise people about it. Or else, our daughters, our sisters will be caught in the trap."

The original The Kerala Story starred Adah Sharma, a nursing student from Kerala who was brainwashed into joining extremist ranks. The film became a box-office phenomenon, grossing over Rs 300 crore.
