Filmmaker Anil Sharma, a close family friend of the Deols, recently opened up about the final days of Dharmendra. He recalled that the legendary actor was on the road to recovery after being discharged from the hospital. Sharma further shared that Dharmendra could open his eyes and even move his hand. Even doctors stated that the legendary actor was indeed a strong man. However, the actor could not survive even after showcasing health improvement.

In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, Anil Sharma said, “I went to his home. He had recovered. He would open his eyes and even move his hands. He was recovering, and doctors were saying that Dharamji bahut strong aadmi hai. (Doctors said he is a very strong man).”

He added, “Doctors assured us he would recover, and even in the hospital, it looked like he would. But age shows its signs, and you can’t fight that. Everyone was hopeful, and we all thought we would celebrate his birthday on 8 December.”

Anil Sharma shared a long journey of working history with Dharmendra. He first directed the actor in the movie named Hukumat, which was released in 1987. The two then worked in other films like Elaan-E-Jung, Farishtay, and Tahalka. Not only Dharmendra, Anil Sharma also directed some of the biggest films of Sunny Deol, such as Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, Singh Saab the Great and Gadar 2. In 2004, he also directed Bobby Deol in Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo. In 2007, he brought he the father and sons trio in the family drama movie, Apne.

Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 on November 24. His demise left his fans and the film industry in deep grief. The actor, also known as He-Man of Bollywood, was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital earlier this month after reportedly experiencing breathlessness. On November 12, he was discharged from the hospital and received medical treatment at home. However, his health deteriorated in the days that followed. Dharmendra was about to turn 90 on December 8, 2025. According to reports, the family even thought that if he recovered, then they would celebrate Dharmendra’s 90th birthday.
