Lyricist Javed Akhtar married writer Honey Irani in 1972. The duo was blessed with two talented children, Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar. But after a few years, the couple decided to part ways, and Javed Akhtar often took responsibility for their separation. He blamed his habit of drinking alcohol, which made him irrational and argumentative. During this difficult phase, actress Shabana Azmi entered Javed’s life. Javed Akhtar was still married to Honey, but lived separately when he met Shabana Azmi. After spending a decent amount of time with each other, Javed and Shabana decided to tie the knot, only after being guided by their close friend Annu Kapoor.

Annu Kapoor is a popular actor known for his various television serials and famous Bollywood movie roles. It's him who played cupid between the two lovebirds and got them to get married. During a recent interview with TV9 Bharatvarsh, Annu Kapoor revealed the couple was living together, but were not able to come to a decision about their future with each other. He shared that after he nudged them a little and asked them to either break up or get married, the duo decided to tie the knot at midnight.

He explained, “You can say that I got them married. I was a friend of the family, and they’ve been very kind to me as well. I landed at their house, and considering the fork in the road that they were up against in their relationship, I advised them to make a decision. Either break up or take the plunge. Back then, the concept of live-in relationships wasn’t acceptable. Javed said, ‘Okay, fine, do what you have to.’ I turned to Shabana and asked, ‘Are you fine with it?’ And she said, ‘Dekh lo, Annu’. I considered her my sister, and I took that as a signal to proceed with the plan.”

Further, Annu Kapoor revealed that he took the late actor Kamran Rizvi with him to the Bandra mosque at midnight to find a maulvi to get the couple married. Actors Anil Kapoor, Boney Kapoor and others also joined the midnight celebrations later on.
