Anupam Kher helmed and starred in Tanvi the Great, a deeply personal movie for him, as it was inspired by his autistic niece. The story centred on an autistic girl striving to join the army to fulfil her late father's dream of hoisting the flag at Siachen. However, the film faced a disastrous initial release in July 2025, clashing with Mohit Suri's blockbuster Saiyaara, which dominated the box office and left Anupam Kher's heartfelt drama wiped out. Despite the crushing commercial failure, the actor has decided to re-release the movie in theatres on September 26, 2025. This unusual move was a testament to his belief in the film's message of courage and innocence, especially for debutant Shubhangi Dutt, who portrayed the title character.

Anupam Kher opened up about re-releasing his movie during a recent interview with PTI and said, "I think second chances are very important in life. We get disappointed from the first chance but life should be hopeful. One show at a time. And then we will see how it does. The risk is only for one week. The reward can be for 10 weeks.” Anupam Kher also revealed that after seeing his movie fail miserably, the actor was upset and even cried at times. But he still had hope.

He also expressed his thoughts on Saiyaara’s success and mentioned that it was surprising for everybody, even for the movie’s makers. "I think even Adi Chopra did not know that this would do so well. Even Mohit Suri did not know... I am very happy that it has done so well. Nobody knew. We were tracking ahead of ‘Saiyaara’. It doesn't matter. I must say that I have great love for both Ahaan and Aneet . I run an acting school. So I hear the heartbeats of newcomers clearly. My father used to say, 'The one who comes first, he always has the intention that he has to come first. And the one who comes second and third, he can always try to come first'," he exclaimed.
