BTS RM aka Kim Namjoon has again made headlines after a short video clip, allegedly of him smoking a cigarette, has gone viral on social media. The video shows RM smoking on a sidewalk in Paris. It was posted on X (Twitter), which later on started a debate among the netizens regarding whether the man in the video is the sensational Kpop singer or not. In the video, the man can be seen standing alone, wearing a beanie and sunglasses on the Parisian streets. Although due to the low camera quality of the video, the face is not clearly visible, some online users speculate him to be the Indigo singer, BTS RM.

Netizens started slamming BTS RM as soon as the video spread on the internet. However, Kim Namjoon’s fans soon united to defend the star, stating that it was wrong to invade a celebrity’s privacy and took his side by saying that he is an adult and is capable of making his own choices. Some netizens raised questions on the idol’s public manners and expressed their concerns, stating that celebrities should be more mindful in public surroundings.

Reacting to the viral video, a netizen mentioned, “He wants to go viral so bad because posting it on his ig story failed and nobody cared.” Another user defended him by commenting, “You all leave him alone, we doesn't give a shit about you anyways.” Other comments read, “Haters saw Namjoon smoking first and I am not?! Ahhh guys you are so obsessed with him more than his fans.” A true RM fan mockingly expressed, “How funny... try again to see if your information is important .. occupy your time in other things.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Kim Namjoon was announced as the new ambassador of Samsung Global Art TV on June 17, 2025. With this appointment, RM was spotted at the exhibition curated by Samsung Art TV, which took place at Art Basel in Switzerland. After concluding his military service on June 10, 2025, this marked RM’s first social event. Following this, the BTS band member also shared a glimpse of the event by posting the photos on his Instagram.
