Rakul Preet Singh is currently garnering praise for her performance in De De Pyaar De 2. Like other members of the film fraternity, she has joined the ongoing debate about work-life balance and working hours in the industry, following reports of Deepika Padukone's demand for an 8-hour shift after becoming a mother. Rakul believes that there is no one rule for everyone. Citing the example of Amitabh Bachchan and expectations of him working 14 hours a day at his age, she said every actor has the right to decide, depending on their priorities in life. She also said that working hours are 'subjective'.

Rakul Preet Singh Weighs In On Deepika's 8-Hour Shift Row

In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Rakul Preet Singh shared her take on working hours in the film industry. She said, "I feel that working hours are very subjective to where you are in your life right now. How you were at the age of 16 is not how you are at the age of 25, is not how you are at the age of 35, and so on. So there is never one rule for anybody. Aap yeh to nahi expect karoge na ki Amitabh ji 14 hours kaam kare."

The actress further stated, "Every person has the right to decide that in this phase of my life, I want to give this much time to my family, or work for this many hours. And if I can’t do more than that, then I will unfortunately have to let go. Everybody has the right to decide how much they want to work."

Supporting Deepika's demand, Rakul cited examples of Bollywood stars like Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar. She added, "I am sure those who work 8 hours today have worked a lot earlier. They have even worked 48 hours straight. Like Ajay sir, Akshay sir- in the 90s, they would go from one film set to another. They would change only their shirts while wearing the same jeans. That also used to happen. And now they have reached a point that they can decide how much work they want to do. So you transition with time and with where you are in life."

The debate surrounding Deepika Padukone emerged after she was dropped from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit due to her alleged demand for an 8-hour shift. This was followed by her exit from Kalki 2. Ever since these announcements were made, the issue has sparked a debate online and within the industry, with several people supporting the actress, while others sided with the makers.
