Hema Malini, actor-turned-politician, appeared at Rashtrapati Bhavan to accept the Padma Vibhushan that her late husband, renowned Bollywood actor Dharmendra, had received posthumously.  On Monday, during the first civil investiture ceremony of 2026, President Droupadi Murmu bestowed the honour, which was a special event for the family of the late actor.

Hema Malini Accepts Dharmendra's Padma Vibhushan

Hema Malini acknowledged the heritage that influenced generations of moviegoers while standing on stage, looking visibly emotional. Ahana Deol was also present at the esteemed award ceremony and was seen getting teary-eyed as her mother accepted the honour.

The Press Information Bureau of India shared a video of Hema Malini and Dharmendra's daughter getting emotional on X (previously Twitter). The caption read, "President Droupadi Murmu confers #PadmaVibhushan upon veteran actor #Dharmendra Singh Deol (Posthumous), popularly known as the 'He-Man' of Bollywood."

 

 

Hema Malini received the posthumous Padma Vibhushan in recognition of her husband's contributions to the film industry over the course of six decades. Known as the 'He-Man' of Indian cinema, Dharmendra has starred in over 300 movies.

Hema Malini characterised the occasion as intensely emotional in remarks made before the event. She added that her daughters, Esha and Ahana, as well as Dharmendra's sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, understood the significance of this special recognition and that the entire family shared the honour.

For those who are unaware, this is not the first time the actor has received the Padma Award. In 2012, he was bestowed with the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Indian film.

Several well-known figures from the domains of literature, music, and film attended the ceremony at the Ganatantra Mandap.

The late actor Satish Shah was named for the Padma Shri in recognition of his contributions to Indian entertainment during the same investiture round. For her extensive career in the music business, singer Alka Yagnik was scheduled to receive the Padma Bhushan. R MadhavamProsenjit Chatterjee, Anil Kumar Rastogi, and Arvind Vaidya were also on the list, demonstrating their diverse contributions to Indian art and culture.
