Idli Kadai Box Office Collection Day 8: Dhanush’s latest directorial venture, Idli Kadai, has entered its second week at the box office but is now witnessing a noticeable decline in its collections. After earning close to Rs 40 crore during its opening weekend, the film’s numbers have steadily dropped following the release of Kantara: Chapter 1. The film explores themes of family, tradition, and identity, with Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Parthiban, and Samuthirakani in key roles.
On its eighth day, Idli Kadai earned Rs 1.18 crore, taking its total India net collection to Rs 42.88 crore, as reported by Sacnilk. The Tamil family drama had a strong start, opening with Rs 11 crore on its first day. It maintained momentum over the weekend, earning Rs 18 crore across Saturday and Sunday, thanks to positive word-of-mouth and praise for Dhanush’s direction and performances by the cast. During its first five days, the film managed to cross Rs 45 crore in India and Rs 54 crore worldwide. However, after the initial buzz, the film’s earnings dipped by more than 70% during the weekdays, recording Rs 1.55 crore each on Monday and Tuesday before dropping further on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the major reason behind this decline is the release of Rishab Shetty’s much-anticipated Kantara: Chapter 1, which hit theatres on October 2. The Kannada blockbuster has been dominating the box office globally, already crossing Rs 400 crore and heading towards the Rs 500 crore milestone. Its visually stunning storytelling, rooted themes, and large-scale presentation have drawn audiences away from Idli Kadai, making competition tough for Dhanush’s film.

Idli Kadai tells the story of Murugan (played by Dhanush), a chef who leaves his village and his father’s idli shop to work in a Michelin-star restaurant abroad. After his father’s death, Murugan returns to his ancestral village to rebuild his father’s shop and rediscover his roots. While critics have praised the film’s performances and warm emotional tone, they have pointed out its predictable storyline. Technically, the film shines with cinematography by Kiran Koushik, editing by GK Prasanna, and music by G.V. Prakash Kumar. The Tamil movie is produced under Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films in association with Akash Bhaskaran’s Dawn Pictures. With the weekend approaching, it remains to be seen whether the film can regain momentum and cross the Rs 50 crore mark despite the ongoing box office clash.
