Jaya Bachchan frequently faces criticism on social media for her viral interactions with the paparazzi, as she has often expressed her discomfort with cameras invading her personal space. Recently, filmmaker Karan Johar came to her defense, urging paparazzi to remember that the veteran actress has a “very warm” heart. At the recent Filmfare Awards in Ahmedabad, Karan Johar called Jaya Bachchan to the stage to present an award, saying, "Please give a big round of applause for the one and only Jaya Bachchan Aunty."

The filmmaker said, "I am sorry we are doing this stupidity, but we consider you as our mother. This whole thing, Shah Rukh and I have taken it upon ourselves to give you the award. We feel very happy, more than you. God bless you, and thank you so much."

He further added, "I have the right to call her Aunty J. She is like a mother to me. She has known me since childhood. I have had the amazing fortune of even directing Aunty Jaya. Her legacy precedes us. But more than anything else, it’s a warm heart, and everyone should know that, especially the paparazzi."

Earlier, the actress attended a fashion event by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla in Mumbai, where she addressed the ongoing tension between herself and the media. Referring to the well-organised media arrangement at the event, she said, "Abhi kya hai, jab aisa hota hai na, toh main photo dene ke liye tyaar rehti hoon. Lekin jab personal kuch hota hai, aap log chori-chupe photos lete hai, mujhe acha nahi lagta."
