Smriti Irani is all set to return to television as Tulsi Virani, one of the most iconic characters in Indian soap history. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is coming back with a brand-new season, and ever since Ekta Kapoor announced the show’s revival, fans have been going into a frenzy. The excitement grew even more when the new promo dropped recently, confirming that the much-loved serial will be airing again on Star Plus on July 29 at 10:30 PM. While her return has already sparked waves of nostalgia, there’s also been quite a bit of buzz about the actress’s updated fee. 

Smriti Irani, according to recent reports, is now set to earn Rs 14 lakh per episode for the reboot—a massive jump from what she made when the original show first aired back in 2000. The 49-year-old reportedly earned just Rs 1,800 per episode in the early days of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Although these new figures haven’t yet been officially confirmed, the contrast between her past and present earnings has become a hot topic.

The actress, in a past interview with Curly Tales, opened up about her early career struggles and how an astrologer played a surprising role in changing her fate. "The astrologer’s name was Janardhan. He said I would become a big star. I had gone there to sign a contract where I was going to play the role of someone’s sister. The astrologer told Ekta, 'If you work with her, she is going to be a big face in the country,'” she shared. 

Meanwhile, that single prediction changed everything. Ekta immediately tore up the initial contract and signed Smriti on a new one, increasing her pay to Rs 1,800 per day. “I was working at McDonald’s as a cleaner for just Rs 1,800 a month. So getting Rs 1,800 per day was life-changing,” Smriti revealed.

Adding to the excitement, actor Amar Upadhyay is also returning as Mihir Virani, Tulsi’s husband. The original version of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi aired from July 2000 to November 2008 and became one of Indian television’s most successful and loved dramas.
