3 Idiots is a story of three engineering students who satirically challenge the so-called norms of the country's education system and introduce a new concept of learning. The film starred Aamir Khan as Ranchoddas Shamaldas Chanchad aka Rancho, while R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi played his friends- Farhan Qureshi and Raju Rastogi respectively. We all remember the ending of the 2009 film as emotional as it marked the reunion of Rancho, Raju and Farhan. This ending made the audience happy with the reunion, but what if Rancho never returned? What if Farhan and Raju never got a clue about him?

Rancho Never Returned In 3 Idiots: The Reunion That Never Happened

In the original ending of the movie, after graduation day, Rancho disappeared, leaving behind a mystery. No calls, no address and no trace in the college alumni record. Farhan and Raju searched for him and even found his actual address after learning from the real Ranchhoddas (Jaaved Jaaferi) that he was living in Ladakh. In the new ending, they reached the location, tried many ways to find Rancho, but did not find their friend and returned home heartbroken. What Farhan and Raju did not know was that Rancho, living as Phunsukh Wangdu, was never meant to be found again. He wanted his friends to grow in life. Rancho wanted to create his own identity and challenge society's rules and education system.

Ten Years Later, Farhan And Raju Move On In Life

Farhan followed his passion and became a successful wildlife photographer, while Raju secured a stable job as an engineer. Both always missed the man, their friend Rancho, who inspired them to follow their dreams and live their life on their own terms.

Rancho, living his successful life, continues to track his friends' achievements through social media platforms. His life never revolved around getting fame or taking revenge on Chatur Ramalingam, aka Silencer. He always believed in real education, which is not stuck to books, but in the outside world. After fighting for his identity as Chhote and pretending to be Rancho, he chose to stay away and let his ideas live freely.

This version's ending hurts, as Farhan and Raju never met Rancho. They continue living their lives, while Rancho lives peacefully surrounded by mountains and a lake. Farhan and Raju still say 'All Is Well,' but this time, without Rancho.
