In a recent interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Sandeep Reddy Vanga responded to criticism surrounding the climax of his film Animal, attributing the discontent to what he described as people having a "personal agenda." The crime thriller, which achieved significant success at the box office, faced backlash for its conclusion despite its commercial triumph.
Vanga, known for his earlier film Kabir Singh, acknowledged a common expectation among viewers for the hero to deliver a profound "lecture" at the film's end. He observed that some audiences seek closure by wanting the protagonist to explicitly acknowledge their mistakes on screen, a demand he believes contributes to dissatisfaction.
Discussing Kabir Singh's climax, Vanga mentioned the desire among audiences for a resolution where the titular character either meets his demise or does not end up with the girl. Similarly, he highlighted the challenges faced by Ranbir Kapoor's character in Animal, questioning the audience with, "Aur kya chahiye? Matlab maar du hero ko climax mein?" (What more do you want? Should I kill the hero in the climax?).

Vanga expressed frustration with the audience's preconceived expectations, emphasizing that viewers still find fault even if the expected climax isn't present. He remarked, "Jo climax aap log expect kar rahe ho woh nahi hai toh bhi problem hai. Tumhara personal agenda aa jata hai na jab picture dekhte waqt toh matlab aapko Avatar bhi bore karega, Animal kya hai" (If the climax you're expecting isn't there, then there's still a problem. Your personal agenda comes into play when you watch a movie, meaning even Avatar would bore you, let alone Animal).
Animal revolves around the toxic relationship between a son and a father, portrayed by Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. The film's cast also includes Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri in pivotal roles. Released in theatres on December 1, 2023, Animal is now available on various OTT platforms.
In conclusion, Sandeep Reddy Vanga's defence against criticism emphasizes the challenge of meeting audience expectations, pointing out the impact of personal agendas on the perception of a film's climax. Despite the film's success, the director remains candid about the difficulty of satisfying diverse viewer preferences.
