Sunny Deol Rebuts Gadar 2's 'Anti-Pakistan' Accusations: As 'Gadar 2,' directed by Anil Sharma and starring Sunny Deol, continues to set box office records, it has also faced backlash from certain quarters. The film has been labelled as an 'anti-Pakistani' movie and criticised for portraying Muslims negatively. Now, in a recent interview, Sunny Deol addressed these allegations, stating that cinema should be viewed as a form of entertainment rather than being intensely analysed and dissected.

During an interview with BBC UK, Sunny was questioned about the perception of 'Gadar 2' being labelled as 'anti-Pakistani'. He responded by acknowledging the deep-seated animosity stemming from the 1947 partition. However, he also noted that these historical events are in the past and have now become intertwined with politics.

In Punjabi, he expressed that people from both countries are realising the need to move forward, recognising their common humanity. Sunny further emphasised that in a movie, there is a narrative requirement for characters like a villain and a hero to drive the story.

"But throughout the film, whenever I have portrayed any character, I have never run anyone down. I don't believe in that. Even Tara Singh is not that kind of person, not that kind of character. And I believe in such cinema," he said. He referenced his previous movie 'Border,' explaining that they portrayed the experiences of soldiers during the war as shared by them. He acknowledged that interpretations might vary, leading some people to take things personally.

"But we need to look at cinema, it's not trying to affect this side or that side. That's not what we are. We are global, we are for everyone. It's only when it's read and spoken by a certain sector of people, then that thoughts come in time. Majority don't do that, it's a handful of people. That's when the wave comes," he added.

While discussing about the religious symbolism associated with the antagonist in 'Gadar 2' and whether it could exacerbate existing tensions among communities. Sunny Deol responded, "Don't analyse these films to that extent. There's a lot of negativity on digital platforms and even in news broadcasts. Cinema is meant for entertainment."

Helmed by Anil Sharma, 'Gadar 2,' a follow-up to the 2001 blockbuster 'Gadar,' features a cast including Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, Simratt Kaur, and Manish Wadhwa.
