Chiyaan Vikram-starrer much-anticipated movie Thangalaan finally hit the theatres today, on Independence Day. The movie received rave reviews from the audience and critics alike. Vikram takes on the titular role in the film, joined by Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Daniel Caltagirone, Pasupathy, Hari Krishnan Anbudurai, and Sampath Ram. As for its opening day performance, Thangalaan is expected to soar to great heights, setting a strong tone for its box office journey.

Thangalaan Box Office Prediction Day 1

Thangalaan, set in the British Raj, is generating buzz with its unique subject and Chiyaan Vikram's new look. With 2 days to go, the film has already sold 2.20 crores gross tickets in Tamil Nadu and 2.50 crores gross in India, including other states. Expected to earn 14-17 crores net on day 1, Thangalaan is poised to become the second-biggest Kollywood opener of 2024, surpassing Raayan's 13.70 crores, with Indian 2 holding the top spot at 26 crores, according to Koimoi.

About Thangalaan

Thangalaan is directed by Pa. Ranjith produced by Studio Green, Neelam Productions, and Jio Studios. Announced in December 2021 as Chiyaan 61 (Vikram's 61st lead role), the film's title was revealed in October 2022. Principal photography took place from October 2022 to July 2023, across various locations including Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Madurai, and Karnataka.

Thangalaan Plot: During the British Raj, Thangalaan, a fierce tribal leader, and his tribe assist Lord Clement, a British General, to trace gold in their village. While searching for the gold, the villagers earn the wrath of Aarathi, an apparent sorceress, and Thangalaan sets out to stop Aarathi with all his might.

The music and background score for the film are composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, his first collaboration with Ranjith and third with Vikram. Times Music acquired the audio rights for ₹5 crore. The soundtrack features four released tracks: Thangalaan Exclusive Making Theme (April 19), Minikki Minikki (July 17), and Thangalaan War Song (August 2).
