Jana Nayagan has been facing the wrath of censor board. The film's release is currently hanging in a precarious balance just days before its scheduled January 9th debut due to an unprecedented censorship deadlock. Although the production team had proactively submitted the film for review well within the required timeframe, anticipating a standard administrative clearance, the process was derailed by significant delays from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Jana Nayagan Controversy Explained

1. The producers of Jana Nayagan approached the Madras High Court after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) withheld certification. The CBFC referred the film to a Revising Committee following complaints regarding the portrayal of religious sentiments and the armed forces.

2. The TVK (Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam) has alleged a 'deliberate delay' by the Censon Board. The film's narrative is speculated to be stalled due to its alignment with Vijay’s real-world political entry.

3. A Google Gemini AI watermark was spotted in a scene in the trailer of Jana Nayagan. Some viewed it as an "insult" to traditional filmmaking.

4. The film is set for a major festive clash with Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi. Some of Vijay's fans were caught on video tearing down Parasakthi posters in Madurai, reflecting the heightened emotions surrounding Vijay's final cinematic outing.

5. Reports surfaced in late 2025 suggesting that Vijay had not completed dubbing for the film due to an alleged Rs 85 crore unpaid salary. Although promotions continued, this dispute added a layer of financial uncertainty to the project.

Jana Nayagan (People’s Hero) is an upcoming Tamil political action thriller directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions. Starring Vijay in what is expected to be his final film before entering politics, the film also features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani. Loosely inspired by the Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari, it was initially announced as Thalapathy 69 and officially titled in January 2025. With music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Pradeep E. Ragav, Jana Nayagan is set for a Pongal theatrical release on January 9, 2026.
