A court has sentenced two convicts to life imprisonment for the kidnapping and murder of Dilip Kumar Mehta, a Delhi resident, three years ago. The duo had kidnapped Mehta, demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh, and later killed him after receiving Rs 9 lakh.

The victim’s body was discovered on September 23, 2022, on the Gudhana-Rajpura road, Gurugram. According to police, the sarpanch of Gudhana village spotted the body while walking, and a knife was found nearby. The deceased was later identified as Dilip Kumar Mehta of Punjabi Bagh JJ Colony, Delhi.

Police arrested the accused, Krishna Kumar from Rewari (living in Assam) and Asim Banerjee from Kokrajhar, Assam. Investigations revealed that the pair had planned the kidnapping, robbery, and murder of Mehta, who ran a food joint in Rewari. 

After scouting the shop for two days, they successfully abducted him on September 16, 2022, demanded a ransom, received Rs 9 lakh through a friend, and subsequently stabbed him to death.

The Additional District and Sessions Court, under Judge Jagdeep Singh, convicted both accused based on the evidence. They were sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 30,000 under sections 302 and 34 of the IPC, 10 years’ imprisonment with a Rs 20,000 fine under section 397, and 5 years’ imprisonment with a Rs 10,000 fine under section 201.
