Days after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered a major political blow with seven of its MPs joining the BJP, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia has claimed that the party may face another round of defections in Punjab.

According to Majithia, two more AAP Lok Sabha MPs are likely to quit the Arvind Kejriwal-led party soon. He made the claim in a post on X, citing his own "sources".

In his post, Majithia wrote, "Another day, another departure loading...Sources indicate two Lok Sabha MPs may soon be flying out of the Aam Aadmi Party. The "frequent flier" list just keeps growing, while tagging AAP, Arvind Kejriwal, and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

So far, AAP has not issued any response to the allegation.

At present, AAP has three Lok Sabha MPs, all representing Punjab. As per India’s anti-defection law, if two-thirds of a party’s lawmakers in a House decide to break away, they can merge with another party without facing disqualification. If Majithia’s prediction comes true, the two MPs could switch sides legally.

Such a development would further weaken AAP’s parliamentary presence, reducing it to just four MPs, three in the Rajya Sabha and one in the Lok Sabha.

The party has already been hit by a major split after MP Raghav Chadha’s recent exit, which reportedly took away two-thirds of AAP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha.

While defending his decision, Chadha had alleged that AAP had become "corrupt and compromised". In response, the party described his departure as a "betrayal", despite previously promoting him from MLA to MP.
