BJP MP from Odisha's Balasore, Pratap Sarangi, has accused Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of bullying fellow MPs and behaving like a "bouncer" than a LoP. He added that Rahul Gandhi was doing injustice with the post once held by eminent personalities like Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Sarangi sustained injuries during a scuffle in Parliament on December 19 and was later hospitalised.

While providing health updates to the reporters, Sarangi assured them that he was fine now. “I am comparatively better now and was discharged from the hospital on December 28. I still need to be cautious as the stitch on my head has not fully healed,” Sarangi said. He also recalled the incident at the parliament that led to his injury.

“It happened when we (BJP MPs) were standing near an entry gate, peacefully protesting against the insult of Dr Ambedkar, holding placards,” Sarangi said. “Suddenly, Rahul Gandhi came along with some of his party colleagues and started pushing people to move ahead. He was behaving like a bouncer, not like the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, a post once occupied by great personalities like Vajpayee ji,” he added. Sarangi further claimed that Rahul Gandhi is not respecting the post that he held.

On being asked about the allegations of blocking the gate of the parliament, Sarangi said that the Congress was making baseless allegations against the BJP MPs. He claimed that there was enough space for Rahul Gandhi and other opposition MPs to enter into the parliament, but they started pushing the ruling party MPs.

“Rahul Gandhi pushed MP Mukesh Rajput, who was standing in front of him. Rajput ji fell on me, and my head likely hit the corner of a stone-like object, causing the injury,” said Sarangi. Sarangi also stated that Rahul Gandhi came to him later after being informed about the incident but left without showing much concern. “Yes, he came near me after someone informed him of what had happened. However, he quickly left without showing any genuine concern. I recovered due to the blessings of Lord Jagannath,” said Sarangi.
