The four accused identified as Mohammad (26), Jollu Shiva (20), Jollu Naveen (20) and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu, were arrested by the Telangana Police on November 29. All the accused worked as lorry drivers. The four were under judicial custody and lodged in high-security cells in Cherlapally Central Prison where police tightened security by deploying additional personnel
The Telangana government had earlier issued an order, setting up a special fast track court to try the case which triggered a national outrage with protests continuing across the country.
The accused abducted, gang-raped and murdered the 26-year-old veterinarian doctor, who was on her way home after a work-related visit to Gachibowli in Hyderabad. The accused after committing the crime set ablaze her body and dumped it under a culvert in Shadnagar.
The 26-year-old veterinarian had gone missing on Wednesday (November 27), while she was returning home from work. During the investigations, it was revealed that on her way back, she stopped near the Shamshabad toll booth and parked her vehicle there. She later took a cab to visit a dermatologist. When she returned back to her parked vehicle at around 9 pm, she found her two-wheeler punctured.
The deceased vet last called her sister at around 9:15 pm on Wednesday (November 27) night and told her that she was stranded due to the punctured tires. The call recording also suggests that she was feeling scared due to the suspicious behaviour of some truck drivers nearby.
Later on November 28, her charred body was found by the Police under a culvert in Shamshabad. After investigations, the police confirmed that she was raped and murdered by the accused and later they set ablaze her body and dumped it. The Cyberabad Police had arrested four men on November 29 in connection with their involvement in the rape and murder case.
