Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that India’s foreign policy has become assertive, enabling the country to navigate global challenges effectively, and was spineless before the BJP regime, as it ‘has been given spine’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking at an interview, focused on Modi’s legacy, marking his 75th birthday last week, Shah said, “When historians will compare different PMs, I strongly believe they'll find that the biggest achievements have been under PM Modi's tenure. India's foreign policy was spineless earlier. It's Modi who gave a spine to it.”

During the interview, Amit Shah was asked to compare the tenure of the longest serving PM, Jawahar Lal Nehru, and the second longest serving PM, who is continuing his third term in office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shah said that India's foreign policy was previously skewed towards diplomacy, often sidelining security concerns. However, since 2014, the BJP-led NDA government under PM Modi has shifted the focus, prioritising national security alongside diplomatic efforts.
“Whenever Pakistan carried out a terror attack… we prepared a reply with not a minute's delay, and delivered a befitting retaliation within a month,” Amit Shah said, speaking at a media outlet in Hindi.
“Indians' blood cannot be spilled any longer — we have made that amply clear," he added. Shah also said that according to popular belief, ‘ PM Modi is the ‘most popular Prime Minister so far’.
“PM Modi has been the longest-serving, when it comes to being a prime minister and a chief minister... I have seen only one person who hasn't taken a holiday in the last 24 years,” Shah further said.
Shah reflected on PM Modi's remarkable journey, evolving from a local party worker to a national BJP leader, then Chief Minister of Gujarat, and eventually Prime Minister. Having observed Modi's growth firsthand, Shah noted, "always widening his vision as per the role," appreciating how Modi's perspective expanded with each new responsibility.
