Azam Khan Acquitted: Veteran Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was acquitted by an MP-MLA court in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur in a 2019 poll code violation case, news agency PTI reported citing his lawyer. The accusation against Khan was that he reached a polling station in his vehicle during the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Notably, he was also a candidate. Relevant provisions bar vehicles from coming within 200 metres of a polling station. Khan's lawyer, Mohammad Mursaleen, said the FIR against the SP leader was lodged by the then SDM PP Tiwari. It was alleged in the FIR that Khan brought his car inside the voting campus to cast his vote.

"The trial was conducted in the honourable court in which five witnesses appeared, and the prosecution failed completely to prove that the allegations were correct. The court has acquitted Azam Khan, finding it to be a false case," Mursaleen was quoted as saying by PTI. Khan has represented Rampur as an MLA 10 times in the past. He is also a former MP. The ex-UP minister is currently lodged in Sitapur jail and is an accused in several cases.
