Bengal Bandh News: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday demanded capital punishment for the accused in a doctor's rape-murder case and announced that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) will launch a movement seeking capital punishment.

"If state govt had power, we would have ensured capital punishment for accused in doctor's murder within 7 days. We will launch a movement to seek capital punishment for accused in doctor's rape-murder case," said Banerjee TMC students' wing rally.

The TMC supremo assured justice saying that her government will pass an amendment to state laws in the assembly next week and fix death by hanging to perpetrators of rape. She further questioned the Central Bureau of Investigation, which is handling the probe of the rape and murder of the 31-year-old trainee doctor, over the delay, and urged junior doctors to join work now.

"Sixteen days have passed since CBI took over doctor's rape-murder probe, where is justice," questioned Banerjee.

She further took a swipe at the BJP and said that the saffron regiment is indulging in large-scale cyber crimes using AI, causing social unrest.
