The incident took place at Kempegowda International Airport when the staff was conducting a security check on the aircraft. The arrested person was identified as Saju K Kumaran (48), who was leaving from Bengaluru to Kochi on an Air India flight. 

The accused, who was an employee at a private company, reportedly did not allow the staff to check his bag while stating that he was carrying a bomb. Following the incident, the security forces deboarded the man and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel conducted a thorough check, taking him to Bengaluru Airport police station. 

Kumaran was travelling to Kerala to visit his sister's house as her newborn child had died during delivery. He was upset with the additional security checks inside the flight after seating, reported news agency IANS.

Police registered a case under IPC Section 505 (statements conducive to public mischief) for his statement of asking the flight staff, if they think that he is carrying a bomb or knife. Police have initiated an investigation and are verifying his claims.

In another incident, a man alerted an airline’s office with a hoax bomb threat on Wednesday after he got delayed to catch his flight from Bihar’s Darbhanga to Delhi. Police said the caller, identified as Kishore Kumar, missed his SpiceJet flight, which had already taken off with 210 passengers for Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport when he made the call at 4.40 pm on Wednesday.

Gurgaon police filed a case against the accused under sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 507 (criminal intimidation under anonymity) of the IPC.
