A wedding in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr was called off over a dispute about a chair. The strange incident occurred after an elderly woman asked for a chair in the ceremony to sit on but she did not get one. To everyone's surprise, the elderly woman was the grandmother of the groom following which an argument broke out between both parties and eventually the groom called off the wedding.
The bride's father, Mohd Mubeen said that after the baraat arrived and festivities had begun, a heated argument started between an elderly woman and one of the guests. The matter escalated and more people got involved in the spat, including the groom, his brother and other guests, who were from the side of the bride.
One of the guests at the wedding said that the groom "threatened the bride with consequences once she goes home with them." The spat turned ugly and the groom announced that he was calling off the marriage. The bride's side let the groom's family leave the venue but only after they paid the amount spent for the reception ceremony.

In another incident, a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra filed for divorce from her husband after he allegedly threw her and her sister out of the house following a quarrel with his mother over makeup. The woman said that her mother-in-law used her makeup without her permission and refused to stop when she confronted her. The woman also accused her husband of domestic abuse.
