Bengaluru News: Bengaluru residents will be able to attend the city’s 79th Independence Day celebrations this year by securing an e-pass online — a first for the event. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Maheshwara Rao, alongside Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh.

According to a Mathrubhumi report, The state-level ceremony will take place on August 15 at Field Marshal Manik Shah Parade Ground on Cubbon Road. Until now, passes for the event were handed out by government officials to special invitees and participants. This year, members of the public can apply for an e-pass via the Seva Sindhu portal (www.sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in).

Bengaluru Independence Day 2025: Expanded Viewing Arrangements

Rao said the public gallery at the venue has been enlarged to accommodate more visitors. For those who cannot attend in person, the programme will be broadcast live on Doordarshan.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will hoist the national flag, inspect the parade in an open jeep, receive the guard of honour, and deliver his Independence Day address.

Independence Day 2025: Tight security measures

Police Commissioner Singh confirmed that security checks have been ongoing for two weeks. Hotels, lodges and guest houses are being inspected for suspicious activity. CCTV cameras, baggage scanners, door frame and handheld metal detectors have been installed around the venue.

Singh urged attendees with green passes (e-passes) to enter through Gate No. 05, accessible from the Manipal Centre side of Cubbon Road. Visitors are advised not to carry unnecessary belongings, including mobile phones, water bottles, helmets, cameras, radios and umbrellas, to ensure quick entry.

Independence Day 2025: Traffic And parking Restrictions

Bengaluru Traffic Police have asked people to rely on public transport or the metro due to limited parking near the venue. Parking will not be allowed on Central Street (Anil Kumble Circle to Shivajinagar Bus Stand), Cubbon Road (CTO Circle to KR Road and Cubbon Road Junction), and MG Road (Anil Kumble Circle to Trinity Circle).
