Bengaluru Metro Update: Bengaluru’s Namma Metro will now begin operations earlier on the Yellow Line every Monday, with the first trains scheduled at 5.05 AM and 5.35 AM. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) revised the timetable after passengers staged a protest at R.V. Road station on November 17, complaining about the late start of services on this corridor.
Until now, Yellow Line trains began at 6 AM on weekdays, leaving many early-morning travellers stranded, especially on Mondays when several residents return to the city from their hometowns. With other metro lines starting at 5 AM, commuters arriving at Majestic or switching from the Green Line could not continue their journey towards Bommasandra. The advanced services are expected to resolve this gap.
The Hindu report cited BMRCL officials as stating that the decision was aimed at better crowd control on Monday mornings. They noted that a large number of people reach central Bengaluru before dawn and need an immediate connection towards the southern parts of the city. The new timings apply only on Mondays, schedules on other weekdays remain unchanged and Sunday services will continue to start at 7 AM.
Namma Metro Commuters Welcome Revised Monday Timings
Regular users have welcomed the move. One commuter from Bommanahalli said the earlier service would finally allow travellers arriving around 4.30 AM to complete their journey without long waits at R.V. Road station. He added that early-morning riders often struggled because Yellow Line trains started much later than other corridors.
Protest Led To 35-Minute Delay At R.V. Road Station
The November 17 protest had disrupted peak-hour operations after a group of frustrated passengers blocked train doors, delaying the first departure by nearly 35 minutes. Police intervention was required to restore normal services.
Nammo Metro: Bengaluru Yellow Line
The Yellow Line, connecting R.V. Road and Bommasandra, spans nearly 19km and remains one of the busiest stretches of the network. It was inaugurated on August 10 and opened to the public the next day. However, limited trains have led to crowding since launch. BMRCL has gradually increased the number of trainsets and plans to add a sixth one in December, which is expected to reduce waiting times further.
