Bengaluru News: Amid heavy traffic congestion in Bengaluru, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) announced that the flyover route will be taken to decongest Kanakapura Road, one of the busiest areas of the high-tech city. It is considered an ambitious project as the total estimated cost for the project is Rs 1,200 crore. The Karnataka government has announced that many of the flyovers and new metro routes are under consideration to combat the issue of traffic congestion in the city.

The flyover route to Kanakapura is part of the 17 flyovers proposed by the civic body to tackle the heavy traffic jam issue and is being monitored by Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar. He represents the Kanakapura constituency in the assembly, and he emphasised during his election campaign that tackling the traffic congestion will be one of his priorities.

The civic body is expected to soon commission a detailed project report regarding the construction of the flyover. Developing an alternative road to Kanakapura Road has been a pending demand for a while now, as construction of a flyover on the arterial road is tough because of the Bengaluru metro corridor. To tackle the issue, the civic body has now planned to build the flyover on BWSSB Cauvery Pipeline Road.

It will be parallel to the arterial road linking Banashankari and Kanakapura Road. The civic body informed that the pipeline road's width is not even, and the properties on either side of the road belong to the government agencies, including the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).

“Building the flyover over the water pipeline without affecting it will solve the land acquisition issues,” an official was quoted as saying by The Hindu. “As Kanakapura Road is a fast-developing corridor, traffic density has shot up significantly, and travel times have increased. The BWSSB Cauvery Pipeline Road, which is uneven in width, can be developed as a parallel road to Kanakapura Road,” Abdul Aleem of Changemakers of Kanakapura Road was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
