Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Sunday announced that it will introduce a new route in non-AC service from January 16. The BMTC has announced several new routes in the recent past to decongest the traffic in the city.

The BMTC announced that bus number 168-A will operate between Jai Bhimanagara, KR Market, Tavarekere, Sudda Guntepalya, Bengaluru Dairy, Wilson Garden Police Station, and Lalbagh Main Gate 1 Bus. It declared that the bus will be making 18 trips. It further informed that bus number 161-B will pass through Jai Bhimanagara, Shivajinagar, Tavarekere, Sudda Guntepalya, Bengaluru Dairy, Wilson Garden Police Station, Richmond Circle, and M G Statue 1 Bus, and it will make 18 trips too. The step was taken to decongest the traffic in the Silicon city.

The BMTC announced that bus number 168-E will travel through Jai Bhimanagara, Kempegowda Bus Station, Tavarekere, Sudda Guntepalya, Bengaluru Dairy, Wilson Garden Police Station, and Corporation 1 Bus. However, it will be making only 15 trips.

The BMTC on Thursday announced the hike in bus pass prices. It stated that the price for an ordinary daily pass has increased from Rs 70 to Rs 80. It further stated that the cost of weekly passes has increased from Rs 300 to Rs 350.

However, the prices increased significantly when it came to the monthly pass, which rose from Rs 1,050 to Rs 1,200. The BMTC further stated that the commuters using the buses on the NICE Road will have to pay Rs 2,350. Earlier, the price for the same road was Rs 2,200.

Earlier, TomTom Traffic Index stated that Kolkata has overtaken Bengaluru to become the most congested city. The report also suggested that the capital city of West Bengal was the world's second most congested city after Barranquilla. Dutch firm TomTom every year releases a list of the most congested cities by evaluating traffic conditions.
