Bengaluru News: A six-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and killed in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area on Monday. Police said the child’s body was later found dumped in a drain near the migrant workers’ settlement where she lived with her family.
The girl was the daughter of migrant labourers from West Bengal who have been residing in a temporary settlement in Whitefield. Officials said she was playing outside her home on Monday afternoon while her parents were at work nearby.
Child Reported Missing
According to the police, the girl’s father returned home briefly for lunch and saw his daughter playing in front of the house. He also noticed a neighbour, identified as Yusuf Meer, in the area at the time. Shortly after the father returned to work, the child went missing.
When the girl did not return home, her family began searching the settlement and surrounding areas. Later that night, her body was recovered from a drain near Temple Road in the Nallurhalli area.
Police Findings
Whitefield police initially registered a kidnapping case. After the body was recovered around midnight, the case was converted into a murder case. The body was sent to a hospital for post-mortem examination.
Whitefield Deputy Commissioner of Police Saidulu Adavath said preliminary findings indicate the child was strangled to death. “The body was found with plastic ropes around the neck. Prima facie, no other injuries were found,” he said. Police added that there were no signs of sexual assault.
Investigation Ongoing
Police suspect the murder may be linked to a personal dispute, though the motive remains unclear. The child’s father told investigators that he had no prior conflict with the accused.
The suspect is currently absconding. Multiple police teams have been formed to trace and arrest him, officials said.
