A tragic incident unfolded in Chennai’s Anna Nagar on Thursday, where a doctor, his wife and their two sons were found dead at their residence. According to the police, the family reportedly took their own lives due to severe financial difficulties.

The deceased have been identified as Dr Balamurugan, a sonologist, his wife Sumathy, who was an advocate, and their two sons—Jaswant Kumar, a NEET aspirant, and Lingesh Kumar, a Class 11 student. The family was discovered hanging in two separate rooms of their home.

Dr Balamurugan runs several ultrasound centres in the city and was reportedly under huge debt. His driver called the police when he found the family incommunicado after reaching their house. "We suspect they killed themselves. They were in debt. We are investigating. No formal complaint has been received from anyone so far," NDTV quoted a police officer as saying.

However, it’s still unclear whether the family had left any suicide note or they were under pressure from the money lenders.

This came a day after a couple died by suicide after killing their two children in Hyderabad’s Habsiguda. The bodies of the man and his wife were found in separate rooms, while their minor children were found dead on the bed.

The police recovered a suicide note, purportedly written by the man, which revealed that he was suffering from financial problems and health issues.

The family originally hailed from Mukuralla village in the Kalwakurthy block of the Mahabubnagar district before relocating to Habsiguda, Hyderabad, a year ago. The man, who had previously worked as a lecturer at a private college, had been unemployed for the past six months, as reported by the police officer.
