Chennai Weather Update: Humidity, Light Rain Expected In Chennai, IMD Puts Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Other Districts On Alert; 7-Day Forecast

Chennai Weather Today: Amid Excessive heat, Chennai was predicted to witness heavy rainfall on Friday; however, the weather department forecast indicated partly cloudy skies over Chennai with maximum temperatures likely to soar to 38 degrees Celsius on Sunday. 

Chennai Weather Forecast: Clouds, Rain Amid Surge In Temperature

As per the IMD’s local weather report and forecast for Chennai-Meenambakkam, the maximum and minimum temperatures in the Capital city are likely to range between 38 and 28 degrees Celsius. The temperature will hit the mark of 40 degrees Celsius on Monday, creating uncomfortable and scorching weather. Partly cloudy conditions are also expected. On May 13, the maximum temperature is likely to breach the mark of 40 degrees Celsius and hit 41 degrees, Meanwhile, the highest and lowest temperatures between May 14 to May 17 are expected to range between 40 to 28 degrees Celsius. 

Partly cloudy conditions and light rain will be there in Chennai with showers expected to intensify on coming Friday and Saturday. 

Tamil Nadu Weather: Rains In Isolated Places

Heavy Rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Nilgiris, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Tirupattur districts on May 13 and 14, according to the India Meteorological Department. Salem may also receive heavy rainfall on May 13, the IMD said.

A temperature increase of 2-3°C is predicted in parts of TN, Puducherry, and Karaikal from May 10-13, followed by a slight drop in some areas on May 14

On Saturday, Nagapattinam, Karaikal and Ramnad recorded light rainfall. Nagapattinam recorded around 3.6cm of rain, the highest for the day in the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that the southwest monsoon will advance into the South Andaman Sea, Southeast Bay of Bengal, and Nicobar Islands around May 13, bringing much-needed rains to the region.

Advisory For Fishermen

Although the weather department has not issued any advisory for Sunday, fishermen are advised ‘not to venture into the above sea areas’ from May 12 to May 15.

The weather department predicted ‘Squally wind with speed 45 kmph to 50 kmph gusting South Tamilnadu coast, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Comorin area’ from May 12 to May 15.
