Delhi Airport And Airline Advisory: Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Tuesday issued a passenger advisory as dense fog and low visibility hit the region, stating that flight operations are currently running under CAT III conditions. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) also shared airline customer support numbers for affected travelers. 

Visibility on some runways dropped to as low as 100 meters, prompting several airlines to issue their own advisories. The persistent fog in Delhi and nearby areas has caused widespread disruptions across roads, railways, and flights, resulting in significant cancellations and delays.

AAI said due to prevailing fog conditions in parts of Northern India, visibility levels at select airports may be reduced, potentially impacting flight schedules, including delays. 

“Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines through official communication channels for the latest flight updates and to plan their travel accordingly by allowing additional time for airport arrival and check-in procedures.AAI has activated passenger facilitation measures and deployed assistance teams at affected airports to support travellers on the ground. We remain committed to ensuring passenger safety, convenience, and smooth airport operations during adverse weather conditions,” AAI Twitted.

IndiGo announced that Prayagraj, Ayodhya and Pantnagar remain shrouded in dense winter fog impacting visibility and flight operations, while similar conditions over Ranchi, Patna, Hindon, Jammu and Varanasi have led to slower aircraft movements and possible short delays across the network.

“Prayagraj, Ayodhya and Pantnagar remain engulfed in chilly winter air and dense fog this morning, with fluctuating visibility impacting flight schedules and slowing operations, while fog also persists over Ranchi, Patna, Hindon, Jammu and Varanasi, causing slower movements and short delays on some routes; on-ground teams are prioritising safety and visibility compliance, operations will stabilise once weather improves, passengers are advised to check the latest flight status on the website or app, and the situation is being closely monitored with hopes for clearer skies soon.”

What is CAT-III?

India’s busiest airports use CAT-III Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) and Approach Lighting Systems (ALS) to allow aircraft to land in very low visibility, fog, rain, or snow, with Runway Visual Range (RVR) of 50-200 meters. CAT-III operations require specially trained pilots and compliant aircraft.
