Delhi Water Bill Waiver: Delhi Water Bills Waiver: In a surprising and significant move, the Delhi government has announced to relieve residents from pending and surcharged dues ahead of Diwali. The Rekha Government is expected to roll out a one-time amnesty scheme to waive off surcharged bills.
According to a report by the Times of India, the plan has already received in-principle approval and is awaiting final technical preparation.

Delhi Water Bill Waiver Scheme To Be Rolled Out For Domestic Users
The Delhi government's water bill waiver scheme will first be introduced for domestic consumers, with commercial consumers to remain excluded. The scheme's launch is imminent, pending a software upgrade that is nearing completion.
Here’s How Delhi Water Bill Waiver Will Work
- The pending arrears and late payment surcharges will be waived off, resulting in a substantial reduction in the total water bill amount.
- After the waiver, the water bills will be automatically recalculated, eliminating the need for consumers to visit Delhi Jal Board (DJB) offices for individual corrections. This streamlined process will make it easier for consumers to pay their bills.
- "Once the new system is operational, the rollout will begin. The move will ease the strain on users grappling with long-standing billing disputes," the report quoted a government official.
- Approximately 16 lakh out of 27 lakh consumers registered with the Delhi Jal Board received inflated water bills over the past few years, leading to a significant increase in unpaid dues, the report added.

The government official added that if residents fail to pay the waiver, then they will not be given another chance. "Past arrears and late payment surcharges added to the current bills were one of the main reasons for the high bills,” the official added.
