President Droupadi Murmu took part in Dussehra celebrations at Delhi’s Red Fort on Thursday, where she praised the Indian Army’s Operation Sindoor as a significant triumph over terrorism, referring to it as a victory against the “Ravana of terrorism.”
Speaking at Madhavdas Park, the President performed a ceremonial bow before the symbolic burning of Ravana’s effigy and described the festival as a timeless symbol of good prevailing over evil, humility defeating pride, and love overcoming hatred.
“When terrorism strikes at humanity, it must be fought. Operation Sindoor stands as a mark of victory over the Ravana of terrorism, and we salute our brave soldiers for their courage," Murmu said.

Despite ongoing rain, large crowds turned out with umbrellas to witness the traditional burning of Ravana’s effigy.
Urging citizens to draw deeper meaning from the ritual, Murmu said, “This is not just about destroying Ravana outside, but also about ending the Ravana within us. Only then can peace and harmony prevail."
Operation Sindoor was carried out on May 7 by the Indian armed forces, targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, most of whom were tourists.
