Following severe incidents of stone-pelting during a Garba event, attacks on police, and arson in shops in Bahiyal village, Gandhinagar, the administration has taken strict action. On Thursday morning, authorities began demolishing illegally constructed encroachments on the village's main road to enforce the law.
Notices Issued By Administration
The administration had issued notices to approximately 190 illegal encroachers in the area, giving them a two-day deadline to present evidence supporting their constructions. This deadline expired on Wednesday evening.
During this period, not a single encroacher submitted any proof of legal construction to either the Roads and Buildings Department, Dahegam, or the Deputy Executive Engineer of the Capital Planning Sub-Division. Consequently, the demolition of these illegal structures began Thursday morning under heavy police security.
Gandhinagar Superintendent of Police (SP) Ravi Teja Vasamshetty commented on the ongoing demolition drive in Bahiyal village. "Action is being taken against a total of 186 commercial establishments," he stated. "To maintain law and order during the demolition drive, the SDM, Panchayat officials, and 300 police personnel are present. We have identified the commercial properties of those involved in the stone-pelting incident that occurred a few days ago, and action is being taken against them today."
Of the 190 total encroachers, notices were issued to 135 on the Raipur Ghamij Karoli Road and 51 on the Hathijan to Bahiyal Road. Officials are using bulldozers to remove the encroachments.
Following the violent incident, police have registered a case against 83 named individuals and a mob of 200 people. So far, more than 66 suspects have been arrested and sent to jail.
What Led To The Stone-Pelting At The Garba?
The conflict reportedly began after a Hindu youth from Bahiyal village commented on a social media post. Banners with the phrase "I love Muhammad" were displayed in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and similar images were posted on social media.

Following the youth's comment, Muslim youths in Bahiyal became enraged, leading to the vandalism and arson of his shop and nearby stores. Subsequently, they went to the pavilion where the Navratri Garba was being performed and began pelting stones, which escalated tensions in the area.
