A week-old baby, soaked in blood, was found dumped by a sweeper in Haryana’s Gurugram, police said on Friday. The sanitation worker, identified as Rajesh, found a week-old baby with its slit throat on the Darbaripur road on the morning of November 17.
The sanitation worker then informed the police about the boy, who immediately made inquiries in the surrounding area but found no leads about the identity of the infant. Police initiated an investigation and checked CCTV cameras installed within one kilometre of the incident but no evidence was found.
Dr Sudhir Kumar, who conducted the post-mortem, said that the child was no more than a week old and otherwise healthy. On the basis of the postmortem report that came on Thursday, police registered an FIR against unknown persons at Badshahpur Police Station under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including charges of murder, destruction of evidence and concealment of birth, news agency PTI reported.
A crime branch team has been roped in to investigate the death of the infant. Police are now interrogating street vendors and other people to identify the child and the people behind the murder.
