Haryana Police Suicide Case: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday visited the family of state police ASI Sandeep Kumar in Rohtak, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances yesterday. His visit comes a day after a Haryana Police assistant sub-inspector allegedly shot himself dead in Rohtak district, leaving behind a six-minute purported video and a three-page suicide note levelling corruption allegations against the late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar.

Two Suicides By Cops Deepens Mystery Around Corruption In Haryana Police

The Haryana Police came under the lens after two police officials allegedly killed themself, leaving notes highlighting corruption in the department. News agency PTI, quoting police sources, reported that ASI Sandeep played a role in the arrest of head constable Sushil Kumar, an aide of Puran Kumar, who was an inspector general in Rohtak district and was found with a gunshot wound in his Chandigarh home last week.

Saini Also Visited Late IPS Puran's Family

Earlier, Saini, on October 9, visited the family of Puran Kumar, who was found dead in his Chandigarh home last Tuesday, as his wife and IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, reiterated her demands seeking action against "powerful high-ranking officials" in his state, as well as permanent security cover for her family, citing "serious threat and mental distress".

CM Saini visited the bereaved family at their official residence in Sector 24, Chandigarh. Anurag Rastogi, Chief Secretary, Haryana, and a few senior officers also met Amneet P Kumar. During her meeting with the Haryana chief minister, which lasted nearly an hour, Amneet P Kumar also handed over her representation to him.

Gave Consent For Autopsy After Police Assured Fair Probe: Puran's Wife

Amneet, wife of Puran Kumar, said on Wednesday that she gave consent for his autopsy after assurance from Chandigarh Police that a fair and impartial probe will be carried out and commitment from the Haryana government that action will be taken against "erring" officials.

Ending an impasse over the issue, the family agreed to a post-mortem of the senior Dalit police officer, who allegedly shot himself dead at his Chandigarh residence on October 7. Following the family's consent, the autopsy is being carried out at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here.

On the police's plea, the court issued a notice to Kumar's wife to file a reply either personally or through counsel on October 15, failing which the application will be decided on merit. Inspector General Y Puran Kumar, 52, allegedly shot himself dead on October 7. However, a post-mortem could not be conducted as his family refused to give consent until action is taken against the Haryana officers who were named in a 'final note' of the deceased officer.
