His autopsy was conducted at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) after his family gave their consent, ending the stalemate over the post-mortem.
Earlier, the officer’s family had refused to allow the post-mortem until stringent action was taken against the individuals named in Kumar’s alleged “final note.” On Tuesday, Chandigarh Police approached a local court seeking directions for the family to identify the body to proceed with the post-mortem.
Acting on the police’s plea, the court issued a notice to Kumar’s wife, asking her to respond, either in person or through legal counsel, by October 15. The court further stated that if no reply was received, the application would be decided on the merits.
In response, Haryana IPS officer’s wife IAS Amneet P Kumar said, “In view of the assurance extended by the UT Police for conducting a fair, transparent, and impartial investigation, and the commitment conveyed by the Government of Haryana to take appropriate action against any erring officials in due course of law, I have consented to the conduct of the post-mortem examination of late Y Puran Kumar, IPS.”
