Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train: The wait is over. Indian Railways has unveiled the first glimpse of India’s proposed bullet train for the Ahmedabad-Mumbai route.
According to news agency ANI, an image of the modern high-speed train has been displayed at Gate No. 4 of the Ministry of Railways building.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor will span 508 kilometres and connect 12 stations including Mumbai (Bandra Kurla Complex), Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand/Nadiad, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the Rs 1.1 lakh crore project at Sabarmati in Ahmedabad in September 2017.
In 2025, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said India’s first bullet train is expected to begin operations by August 2027.
“You are all aware how work on the bullet train is progressing speedily. It is going very smoothly in Gujarat — wire ducts have been completed, girders installed, and work on the tracks and electric wiring is in progress. Recently, Japanese Minister Nakano visited Gujarat and reviewed the progress of the project. We have set a target to run the first bullet train by August 2027,” Vaishnaw said while addressing the first Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference at Ganpat University in Mehsana.
The corridor includes eight mountain tunnels. Of these, seven are located in Maharashtra with a combined length of 6.05 kilometres, while one tunnel in Gujarat will stretch 350 metres.
How much work has been completed on the bullet train project?
According to Indian Railways, foundation work for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project has been completed at eight stations in Gujarat at Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Anand, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.
Work is currently underway at Thane, Virar and Boisar stations in Maharashtra, while excavation work at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station is nearing completion.
Seventeen river bridges for the bullet train project have been completed so far. Work on four major bridges in Gujarat includes the Narmada, Mahi, Tapti and Sabarmati which is at an advanced stage, while construction is also underway on four river bridges in Maharashtra.
