Indore Water Contamination Deaths: As the death toll continues to rise in Indore’s Bhagirathpura area following the contaminated drinking water incident, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has ordered Indore Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Additional Commissioner to issue show-cause notices and immediately remove the Additional Commissioner from Indore.
He has also ordered to relieve the In-Charge Superintending Engineer of the charge of the Water Distribution Works Department.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister said that after reviewing the situation with senior officials, immediate disciplinary and corrective steps had been ordered.

CM Mohan Yadav said, "I issued directions to the Indore Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Additional Commissioner to issue a show-cause notice in this regard, to immediately remove the Additional Commissioner from Indore, and to relieve the In-Charge Superintending Engineer of the charge of the Water Distribution Works Department. I also issued directions to immediately fill the necessary positions in the Indore Municipal Corporation with effect from now."
While the administration has reported four deaths linked to the contaminated water, other officials have confirmed that at least 15 fatalities and over 200 hospitalisations have occurred since December 26. The action comes as the death toll continues to rise.
MP High Court Orders Action After Indore Water Contamination Deaths
Hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) related to deaths suspected from contaminated drinking water in Indore’s Bhagirathpura area, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the municipal corporation to supply additional water tankers and urged authorities to “uphold the beauty of Indore.”
The court emphasised the urgent need for authorities to maintain a safe water supply to protect public health. A Division Bench of Justices Dwarkadhish Bansal and Rajendra Kumar Vani ordered the municipal corporation and the Madhya Pradesh government to provide clean water on a regular basis and ensure immediate medical treatment for those affected.
“This is big news. If people are dying because of the water, then this is wrong… Keep upholding the beauty of Indore,” Justice Bansal said while instructing officials to deploy additional water tankers to the affected areas immediately.
