Ranchi Police has registered three FIRs against students and student leaders following clashes during a protest demanding reforms in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC).
The cases were filed at Kotwali police station after a protest organised by the JPSC-JSSC Reform Forum turned tense during the burning of an effigy of Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday. Police have named 14 people as accused, while around 200 others have also been booked. Several unidentified people are also under investigation.

Protest Over JPSC-JSSC Reforms Turns Tense
Students and student leaders gathered near Albert Ekka Chowk to burn an effigy of Chief Minister Hemant Soren as part of their protest. Police personnel present at the spot attempted to stop the protesters from burning the effigy. A heated exchange followed and soon escalated into pushing and scuffling between the police and students.
According to police, some protesters obstructed government officials and allegedly clashed with personnel deployed at the site. As the situation worsened, police used force to disperse the crowd.
A group of protesting students later reached Sadar Hospital, where their presence reportedly caused inconvenience to patients and their attendants.
Three FIRs Filed, 14 Named And Around 200 Booked
Three separate FIRs have been registered at Kotwali police station. Ankita Verma, Shahbaz and the duty magistrate have been listed as complainants in the respective cases.
Police have named 14 people as accused, including Kunal Pratap, Piyush, Ravindra Paswan and Chandi Tiwari. In addition, around 200 people have been booked.
Investigators are examining video footage, available evidence and other details to determine the role of those involved. Further action may follow if additional people are found to have participated in the alleged offences.
Students Accuse Police Of Suppressing Protest
The police action has triggered anger among the JPSC-JSSC Reform Forum and other student organisations.
Student leaders maintain that they were protesting over issues linked to examinations, recruitment, employment and reforms in the two commissions. They have alleged that excessive force was used to stop their demonstration.
The student groups have said that the FIRs will not force them to withdraw their demands and have warned of intensifying the agitation in the coming days. Police continue to investigate all three cases.
